TEARS FOR MY COUNTRY
The court clerk gave me the Bible in the court room. He asked me if I want to affirm or swore. I told him I want to swear not with the Bible nor the Quran but that I want to swear with Sango. The whole court bursted into laughter. I am a firm believer of Africa gods. After cross examination the case was adjourn till two months and I was ordered to be remanded in Koro prison. This was in June 1970. It was one among many of my court appearances in the framed up charges against me for my activism.
My eightieth birthday will come up Monday next week and I will celebrate the day with my family and few friends. I have made a memo of my experiences and travail in various Nigeria prisons. My efforts, conviction and struggle for the emancipation of the downtrodden and egalitarian and better society. The memo will enable my grand - children and generation yet unborn know of our efforts and also encourages them to continue the struggle for the Nigeria of our dreams and which all of us will be proud of.
