Meta Platforms, Inc. and Google Nigeria have been fined $150 million and $200 million, respectively, by the tax authorities in the states of Osun and Delta. The precise withholding tax (WHT) that was allegedly withheld from performers and content providers in the two states between 2020 and the present is the subject of the fine. This is written in two different letters that are signed by the executive chairs of the Internal Revenue Services (IRS) in Osun and Delta States, respectively, Messrs. Sola Adewunmi and Solomon Ighrakpata. Additional signatures on the letters came from Ademola Odetunde, Chief Operating Officer of LafriquePromedia Ltd., the states' revenue collecting entity.
