The former Oyo State Deputy Governor, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, filed an appeal against his unlawful impeachment on July 18, 2022, alleging serious misconduct and financial wrongdoing. The petition was denied by an appellate court sitting in Ibadan yesterday. Olaniyan filed a lawsuit requesting Justice Bayo Taiwo of the Oyo State High Court to overturn the impeachment through his attorney, Chief Afolabi Fasanu, SAN. He claimed that the panel was improperly and unconstitutionally formed by Justice Munta Abimbola, the Chief Judge at the time, and that the House of Assembly disregarded the constitutional requirement that a two-thirds majority of its members sign the notice of impeachment.
