According to the NLC, the governors' proposal to allow them to establish wages for their workers is not only dictatorial but also contradicts the principle of minimum wage.
At the conclusion of its meeting in Abeokuta on Thursday, The Southern Governors Forum issued a statement stating that states should be allowed to negotiate salaries for their workers.
The Forum argued that the minimum wage should be proportional to the cost of living and states should have the right to negotiate their own minimum wages.
The Nigerian Governors Forum's 36 states pledged to maintain their involvement in the process and promised that the ongoing negotiations would result in wage growth.
Yesterday, the NLC issued a statement to state governors cautioning against making any more incitement on minimum wage to prevent labor unrest.
