In a statement, the French Bishops' Conference claimed that the opening had provided "wonderful moments of beauty, joy, rich emotions, and was universally praised." The bishops expressed their profound regret that there were instances of ridicule and scorn of Christianity during the ceremony. The event included a piece dubbed "Festivity," however they did not mention any particular scenarios. It started with a group seated at a table, including numerous drag queens, which was evocative of the Last Supper—the last meal that Jesus is supposed to have had with his apostles.
