On Monday, Glory Adekolure, a University of Benin graduate, was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered in Iyowa community in Benin City, which has been condemned by the Edo State Government.
Ms Adekolure, 22, was said to have been tortured, raped and killed by as yet unidentified people on her way home from where she went to process her clearance.
Her body was dumped near her mother's house.
Mr Obaseki expressed horror and sadness over the incident in a statement yesterday by his Commissioner for Communications and Orientation, Chris Nnehikare.
Mr Nnehikare noted that the governor had ordered the state Commissioner of Police to track down the culprits within seven days.
